भारतीय रेल ने रेल अवसंरचना को मजबूत बनाने और नेटवर्क क्षमता बढ़ाने की दिशा में एक महत्वपूर्ण पहल के अंतर्गत, दक्षिण मध्य रेलवे के नांदेड मंडल के परभणी–मुदखेड़ दोहरी लाइन खंड पर विद्युत कर्षण प्रणाली के उन्नयन को स्वीकृति प्रदान की है। इस परियोजना में संबंधित विद्युत आपूर्ति स्थापना कार्य भी शामिल हैं, जिसे 163 करोड़ रूपए की लागत से स्वीकृत किया गया है।
इस परियोजना के अंतर्गत 164 ट्रैक किलोमीटर क्षेत्र में वर्तमान 1×25 केवी विद्युत कर्षण प्रणाली को उन्नत 2×25 केवी प्रणाली में परिवर्तित किया जाएगा। इसके लिए बढ़े हुए विद्युत भार को संभालने हेतु आधुनिक बिजली आपूर्ति अवसंरचना भी विकसित की जाएगी।
परभणी–मुदखेड़ रेलखंड रणनीतिक रूप से महत्वपूर्ण हाई यूटिलाइज्ड नेटवर्क रूट-9 का हिस्सा है, जो अजमेर–इंदौर–खंडवा–अकोला–पूर्णा–मुदखेड़–सिकंदराबाद–महबूबनगर–धोन जैसे प्रमुख क्षेत्रों को जोड़ता है।
उन्नत ट्रैक्शन प्रणाली से ट्रेनों के संचालन के लिए विद्युत आपूर्ति अधिक मजबूत होगी। इससे इस रेलखंड की माल ढुलाई क्षमता बढ़ेगी और वंदे भारत एक्सप्रेस जैसी तेज गति वाली ट्रेनों के संचालन को बेहतर समर्थन मिलेगा। यह परियोजना भारतीय रेलवे के वर्ष 2029-30 तक 3,000 मिलियन टन माल ढुलाई के लक्ष्य को प्राप्त करने में भी सहायक होगी।
यह पहल भारतीय रेल द्वारा देशभर के उच्च घनत्व वाले रेल गलियारों में विद्युत अवसंरचना के आधुनिकीकरण, परिचालन दक्षता बढ़ाने और भविष्य की परिवहन आवश्यकताओं को पूरा करने के लिए किए जा रहे निरंतर प्रयासों का एक महत्वपूर्ण हिस्सा है।
