उत्तराखंड के पर्वतीय क्षेत्रों के प्रमुख शहरों में पांच साल के भीतर मतदाताओं की संख्या बढ़ने की बजाय घट गई है। निकाय चुनाव के लिए तैयार की गई मतदाता सूची से यह खुलासा हुआ है। निकायों में सवा तीन से 16 फीसदी तक वोटर कम हो गए हैं। जबकि देहरादून समेत कई मैदानी शहरों में मतदाताओं की तादाद तेजी से बढ़ी है।
राज्य में पलायन की रोकथाम के लिए बने पलायन आयोग के मुख्यालय पौड़ी शहर में करीब 16 फीसदी मतदाता कम हो गए हैं। श्रीनगर,अल्मोड़ा और नैनीताल में भी हालात ठीक नहीं हैं। राज्य में निकायों की वर्तमान मतदाता संख्या 27.30 लाख तक पहुंच चुकी है।
गढ़वाल-कुमाऊं के प्रमुख पर्वतीय निकाय पौड़ी, श्रीनगर, अल्मोड़ा, नैनीताल में मतदाताओं की संख्या में भारी गिरावट आई है। उत्तरकाशी के नौगांव में भी मतदाता कम हुए हैं। जिन पर्वतीय निकायों में मतदाताओं की संख्या बढ़ी भी है। वो मैदानी जिलों के मुकाबले अपेक्षाकृत काफी कम है।
मैदानी जिलों में देहरादून नगर निगम में पिछले पांच साल में मतदाता संख्या एक लाख से ज्यादा बढ़ गई है। मसूरी, विकासनगर, हरबर्टपुर समेत सभी निकायों में भी बढ़ोतरी हुई है। यूएसनगर में रुद्रपुर नगर निगम में 15 हजार, काशीपुर में 22 हजार से ज्यादा मतदाता पिछले पांच साल में बढ़े हैं।इनके साथ ही यहां के अन्य निकायों में भी मतदाता संख्या बढ़ती ही जा रही है। हल्द्वानी में पिछले पांच साल में मतदाताओं की संख्या में 22 हजार का इजाफा हुआ है। सीमांत में पलायन कम राज्य के अपेक्षाकृत कम संसाधन वाले सीमांत जिलों उत्तरकाशी, पिथौरागढ़ में पलायन कम हुआ है।
उत्तरकाशी में नौगांव को छोड़कर बाकी सभी निकायों में करीब दो प्रतिशत तक वृद्धि देखी गई है। चमोली में भी जोशीमठ नगर पालिका में 53 मतदाता कम हुए हैं, हालांकि चमोली, गोपेश्वर में बढ़े हैं। पिथौरागढ़ जिले के निकायों में भी मतदाता संख्या में वृद्धि हुई है।
